Spring 2015 Makeup Trend: Inky Black Eyes

Blackest-black liner was a must-have on the runways, so if you don't already own it, pick some up and get playing! Rachel Zoe's models wore Butter London Wink Eye Pencil (butterlondon.com) up top only, for a retro cat-eye that is clean and chic enough for daytime15-inky-eyes-rachel-zoe-h724.jpg

In 2015 spring there will be a move toward the cooler and softer side of the color spectrum. As a designer draw from daydreams of simpler times an eclectic, ethereal mix of understated brights, pale pastels and nature-like neutrals will take the role.
According to Latrice Eiseman - Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute®:
"Color choices follow the same minimalistic, ‘en plein air’ theme, taking a cue from nature rather than being reinvented or mechanically manipulated. Soft, cool hues blend with subtle warm tones to create a soothing escape from the everyday hustle and bustle.

Spring 2015 Makeup Trend: Perfect Plum

This rich, romantic shade was a favorite on the spring 2015 runways, but it couldn't be more gorgeous to wear right now, as autumn sets in. At the Vera Wang show, makeup artist Lucia Pieroni was inspired by mystical wood nymphs when he brushed models' lids with this dreamy dark purple.04-plum-sophie-theallet-h724.jpg

Interview with Heidi

My friend, blogger Spacegirl's met with Heidi in spring, so here you can find the whole interview, enjoy! :)

- What is the secret of your timeless beauty?

Beauty comes from the inside.  You have surround yourself by those you love and to not worry about what others think. Believing in yourself and having confidence is key.  People around you will respond if you enter the room with your head held high and a smile on your face.  That’s more important than anything on the surface

- Do you have any simple home-made beauty treats that really work?

My top beauty tip is to make sure you drink a lot of water.  You have to take care of your skin from the inside out.  It’s also important to take off your makeup at the end of every night and let your skin breathe no matter how tired you are.  Such simple advice but you would be surprised at how hard it is to follow!

- What are the top 3 beauty products every woman should own?

I definitely can’t live without mascara and particularly love ASTOR’s B&B B-Fly Mascara.  It gives you an instant pop and makes your eyes look bigger.  People always ask me what is the one beauty product I would take to a desert island and I usually beg for two—an eyelash curler and mascara!  So an eyelash curler would be my second.  I also almost always carry blotting papers in my purse.  They help me from getting shiny as the day goes on and are a bit easier than powder because you don’t get that consistent caking on of product

- What was your very first beauty product?

Oh my!  I can’t remember.  I tried everything under the moon when I was little!  My father was in the beauty industry and brought home all the products that a little girl could only dream of.  I tried everything from cobalt blue eyelashes to hot pink blush to purple hair to perms with frosted tips.  I was never afraid to try something new.

- What is the simplest beauty trick that really makes a difference for you?

Nothing works better than a good night’s sleep.  When all else fails, a little concealer doesn’t hurt!

- How do you keep your hair looking healthy and shiny all the time?

I am lucky that I have an amazing team of people to make my hair look perfect, even when I am having a bad hair day!  On days when I don’t need to get glammed up for work, I tend to just throw my hair up in a bun or a ponytail.  This is definitely a quick fix to a bad hair day.  I also swear by Drei Wetter Taft Invisible Power/Hairspray.  Helps me keep it all in place!

- Do you have any fitness tips for staying in shape? How do you motivate yourself to work out?

With my busy schedule, it’s impossible to have a set fitness routine, so instead I stay active by incorporating exercise into my daily life whenever I can—which requires some creativity.  Sometimes I jump on the trampoline with my kids or take a hike with my dogs in the canyon by my house.  Sometimes I run for 30 minutes on my treadmill, but I prefer to be outdoors.  When I’m traveling, it could be doing a few sit ups in my hotel room before I head to work.  I also created a line of performance apparel – Heidi Klum for New Balance.  I love the looks and it inspires me to throw them on and get a little bit of a workout going.

- How do you get ready for a typical day? (everyday makeup routine)

If I’m not working, I keep it simple!  I start out with a moisturizer to keep my skin looking fresh. I love Astor SkinMatch Radiance BB Cream because it’s multiple products in one, plus it protects my skin and gives me a natural-looking glow!  I add a little blush, some mascara and finish off with a great lip gloss.  A little goes a long way!  I think when you work a lot like me and you wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis you need days off

- What was your favourite red carpet appearance?

I loved going to the Oscars.   The people-watching is amazing.  I love to see what everyone wears.  It’s the ultimate fashion runway!

- What is your favourite beauty campaign/photo shoot with Astor?

After four years, there’s almost too many to count!  I loved the ad for Lovely Doll mascara.  I got to wear an amazing wig and they built an awesome box to make me look like a doll.  So fun!

Five tips for the perfect skin

Follow these five simple tips for creating the gentlest beauty regimen ever!

Avoid heavy-duty cleansers

Unlike your pots and pans, “your skin needn’t be scrubbed or squeaky to be clean,” says Jeannette Graf, MD, assistant professor of dermatology at New York University Medical Center. So don’t overdo it. Mild, nondetergent cleansers—milks, gels, foams, or cloths—are your best bet. Scan the ingredient labels of products to see if they contain gentle, plant-derived surfactants (the prefix coco- equals coconut, for example; gluco- equals fruit.

Ditch the toner

These were originally invented to restore the natural pH of skin after it had been washed with an alkaline-detergent soap.

Make sure acid-laced products are pH-balanced

This means their pH is in sync with skin, so “they gently remove sebum (an oily substance secreted by the skin) and makeup without stripping natural oils,” Graf says. Look for the words “pH-balanced” on cleansers that contain glycolic or lactic acids and on exfoliators, she adds, because some have a low pH, which can cause dryness.

Opt for fragrance-free

Fragrance is the most common cause of skin-care-related allergic reactions. If you’re sensitive, be sure to choose products that are labeled “fragrance-free.” The ones that are marked “unscented” typically contain small amounts of fragrance to help mask the odors of active ingredients.

Choose multitasking moisturizers

A good day cream juggles two jobs—hydration and protection. Pick one that has plant-based moisturizers (natural oils, butters, and essential fatty acids penetrate skin better than man-made emollients like petroleum, Graf explains) and antioxidants (those from natural sources may also contain bioflavonoids and other beneficial compounds not found in synthetic versions, Hammer says), plus nonirritating physical sunblocks, like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.
